Review and content guidelines

Signature Dish reviews come only from diners the restaurant seated. These guidelines explain who can review and what reviews, replies and clips can include. They're part of our Terms of Service.

Who can review

  • You booked the table through Signature Dish, and the restaurant marked your party as seated.
  • One review per visit, written within 30 days of it.
  • Your account has a confirmed email address. [[TODO(Adam): phone verification decision. The code also requires a phone-verified account, but texts are in console mode in production, so nobody can verify yet. Either turn on real SMS and add "and a phone-verified account" here, or drop the phone requirement in code]]
  • You must be 18 or older.

What a good review includes

  • What you ate, especially the signature dish, and how it was.
  • Your honest experience of the food, service, atmosphere and value.
  • Things a future diner would want to know.

What isn't allowed

  • Reviews of visits that didn't happen, or of a restaurant you own, work for or compete with.
  • Reviews written in exchange for payment, discounts, free food or anything else. Restaurants must not offer incentives for reviews.
  • Hateful, harassing, threatening or sexually explicit content.
  • Other people's private information, such as phone numbers, addresses or photos of other guests without their OK.
  • Spam, advertising or links. Reviews with links are held for a moderator to check.
  • Content you don't have the rights to share.

[[TODO(Adam): approve this list of content rules]]

Videos and clips

Diners can add a short video (up to 60 seconds) to their review; restaurants can post short clips of their signature dish. The same rules apply. Clips are checked by our team and can be hidden if they break these guidelines.

Restaurant replies

Restaurants can post one public reply to each review. Keep it polite and don't share the guest's personal details.

Moderation and reports

Some reviews are held for a quick check before they appear, for example reviews with links, the same text as another account's review, or a 1- or 5-star rating from a brand-new account. Anyone can report a review or clip using the Report link. Our team reviews reports and may hide content that breaks these guidelines or our Terms. Restaurants can't remove reviews they simply disagree with.
